Setting Goals For Do It Yourself Weight Loss

“Do it yourself weight loss” is a challenge for many Americans because they are bombarded with so many different weight loss products and quick solutions that it’s confusing to know what is legitimate and what is just a cash-grab. Weight loss information is abundant, such as in books, programs and articles, yet consumers also need to understand that companies are in business to make money. You need to be mindful about your choices and understand that you can only reach our goals through hard work and commitment.

Setting goals is essential to a “do it yourself natural weight loss” program. The first step is to create a realistic action plan that you will adhere to. You’ll need to create daily, weekly and monthly goals to ensure you remain on track at all times. The most effective goals are “SMART” — Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time-sensitive. Think about how much weight you would like to lose and plan on losing 1-2 pounds per week to start. Some of your even shorter term goals may be to drink less sugary carbonated beverages, replacing sugary snacks with fruit and vegetables, drinking eight glasses of water per day, or adding fish to your diet two times per week. As your setting your goals, be sure that you look at how your natural weight loss endeavor will become a transformative, healthy lifestyle that will help you achieve broader objectives. Perhaps you’ll be able to run that mile, look good in your bathing suit again or overcome your sleep apnea.

Determination seems to be where people falter when it comes to do it yourself weight loss. Often, we are super motivated and raring to go the first week of our new diet and fitness routine. But shedding pounds is a painstakingly slow process and it’s easy to fall off the wagon when you don’t lose at least one or two pounds each week. Understand that it could take you months to feel your pants free up a little spare room or to see that cellulite firming up. To stay motivated, give yourself a prize to work toward. Perhaps you’re getting married next year and you’d like to see yourself looking slim and trim in that beautiful gown or maybe you want to have a baby in the next year and you’d like to get down to a healthy, normal weight before your pregnancy. Some people schedule cruises or vacations at the end of their weight loss goal period as an added incentive to stick to a health food weight loss diet and exercise plan. Figure out what motivates you and make a picture, a magnet or a post-it that reminds you of this everyday.

During your do it yourself weight loss journey, don’t forget to reward yourself. The exercise weight loss process is one of self-discovery, just as much as it is a path to your end goal. There are many ways to reward yourself without indulging in food. Perhaps you can plan a special weekend hike through your favorite natural setting if you reach your goal this week. Maybe you can buy that CD or exercise equipment you’ve been eyeing. Buy yourself flowers to improve the ambiance around your house. Get a massage, a manicure, a pedicure or a haircut to make you feel even better. When you start dropping sizes, treat yourself to a small shopping trip. Changing your habits is not the easiest thing in the world, so be sure to celebrate the small victories whenever possible.
