In its worst stages, clinical depression becomes severe chronic depression. Most people who suffer from this disease seek no medical attention until it’s bad enough to require long periods of treatment. Each year over 15 million people in America suffer from some form of depression. Unfortunately two thirds of these people never seek medical treatments. They try to hide it, wish it away, because of fear of being labeled crazy or insane. The problem is that severe chronic depression will not be wished away. Over time the disease progresses to the point it completely takes over the victim’s life.
Many sufferers won’t admit they show the signs of severe chronic depression. It is no reflection on you as a person if you suffer from this ailment. You’re still a regular person. Like heart disease or cancer, depression is an illness. Medical care is needed.
The normal symptoms of depression are multiplied in severe chronic depression. The illness and its effects get much much worse. Your ability to adapt both socially and professionally becomes more and more difficult. You’ll be pulled deeper into yourself by feelings of hopelessness. This disease can’t be avoided. However, it can be treated. Attacking it in its early stage is a key.

They find it impossible to handle relationships with other people. It is too difficult to deal with negative feelings such as guilt and helplessness. They are constantly agitated and irritable.
In some cases of severe chronic depression people claim to hear evil spirits whispering in their ear. At some point many of these victims of severe depression will consider suicide as a way of escape. Only treatment and the support of family and friends can help.
Severe chronic depression is terrible. Normal life is no longer possible. Losing the ability to control your own life is terrible. Hope is slim, but treatment is hope. The weapons of choice in the fight against depression are antidepressants and talk therapy. Support groups can also help. Treatment starts the process of recovery for most people. They can once again gain the self control they once had. But first the illness must be admitted and treatment sought.
